The weather may have been unseasonably cool in some parts of the nation in July, but things were plenty hot for the Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport. They combined for 6,845 sales last month, which included both a 48 percent spike over July 2012 and the 1 millionth Santa Fe sold in this country.
“When the 2001 Santa Fe launched in the United States 13 years ago, not only was it Hyundai’s first SUV, but it was one of the first compact crossovers on the market—just behind Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America (HMA). “It was a bold move that paid off and helped position Hyundai as a brand that could innovate in design and package, not just value and warranty.”
As noted, it continues to pay off today, too. On the strength of all those July sales from the Hyundai Santa Fe, along with the Hyundai Sonata selling its 2 millionth U.S. unit, the company itself set an all-time record for the month. The tale of the tape: 66,005 sales that marked a 6.4 percent increase as compared to July in 2012.
“July was another record-breaking sales month for us and is a great way to begin the second half of the year,” noted Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of national sales for HMA. “This is a terrific time for consumers to purchase a new vehicle—industry inventories are being restored, there is ready access to competitive financing terms, and marketing activities and incentive support are running at a fevered pitch. Within that dynamic sales environment, the Hyundai brand is particularly well positioned to compete head-to-head and sustain our record-setting pace throughout the balance of these strong summer months.”
