Hyundai debuted its latest version of the Accent today at the New York Auto Show. The 2012 Accent promises best-in-class fuel economy and power and comes to a dealership near you this summer. Although the 2012 Accent has been significantly upgraded from the older model, Hyundai has decided to keep the low price range the same.
Best-in-class features:
Fuel economy (30 mpg city/40 mpg highway)
Power (138 horsepower)
Storage (five-door cargo volume)
Value ($12,445 for the Accent GLS and $16,795 for the Accent SE)
Along with an attractive spacious interior, the Accent also features Hyundai’s signature “Fluidic Sculpture Design”. The futuristic lines and athletic hexagonal face provide unique style with functionality. The “fluidic” design features a 0.30 coefficient of drag for the sedan and a 0.31 drag coefficient for the five-door model. Bold colors including Century White, Ironman Silver, Cyclone Gray, Ultra Black, Boston Red, Mocha Bronze, Marathon Blue, Clearwater Blue and Electrolyte Green give the vehicle’s look an extra punch. Inside the two- tone gray or beige interior accents are complimented by the cloth-like pillar trim made of volcanic rock and fibrous tissue.
The 1.6 liter all aluminum Gamma four-cylinder engine delivers power with fuel economy by managing injection of fuel while reducing emissions. The Alternator Management System, an offset crankshaft design the variable induction system and the electronic throttle control work together to lower emissions and save fuel. The Accent is the first subcompact vehicle to use this GDI technology.
“The 2012 Hyundai Accent reinvigorates the subcompact segment, similar to what the game-changing Sonata and Elantra have done in their categories,” said Mike O’Brien, Vice President of Hyundai’s Product and Corporate Planning division. “Accent’s class-leading standard fuel economy is another showcase of Hyundai’s dedication to improving fuel efficiency with advancements to traditional gasoline powered vehicles and is the fourth nameplate in Hyundai’s lineup delivering 40 mpg on the highway.”
