It was a full-on zombie jamboree at the recent Comic-Con event in San Diego, an annual celebration of the comics world known for attracting fans dressed as their favorite characters. After all, this year’s show heralded a celebration of the 100[SUP]th[/SUP] issue of horror fave “The Walking Dead”—which also has been transformed into a critically acclaimed TV series on AMC—and featured a special appearance by creator Robert Kirkman. And luckily for Kirkman, he had the perfect car at his disposal: The Hyundai Zombie Survival Machine.
Designed by the artist and fabricated by Designcraft, the Zombie Survival Machine started life as a new 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe, then was significantly upgraded for the coming zombie apocalypse with features like a spiked zombie plow for the front end, armored window coverings, spiked wheels and all-terrain tires, and a trunk loaded with the latest in zombie-eliminating weaponry.
Said Kirkman: “Working with Hyundai on this Zombie Survival Machine was a total blast, and I am excited to share this stunning vehicle with all the fans.”
And even though Comic-Con has concluded, zombie lovers can still visitHyundaiUndead.com to get an in-depth look at the vehicle—and a whole lot more.
Hyundai also brought a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT to the convention, wrapped in artwork from the latest issue of “The Walking Dead,” and provided the official vehicles of Comic-Con’s “Course of the Force” charity relay. Patterned after the relay events involving the Olympic flame, this particular effort swapped torches for Star Wars-style lightsabers (with support from Lucasfilm) to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Said Steven Shannon, vice president of Marketing for Hyundai Motor America: “We are proud to be a part of the Southern California community helping to celebrate Star Wars and build momentum leading up to Comic-Con International, all while raising money to make children’s wishes come true.”
