Even as it continues to see major advances in sales, the Hyundai Equus will receive just a minor price bump for the new model year. The 2013 Hyundai Equus Signature edition will have an MSRP of $59,250, while the range-topping Equus Ultimate will start at $66,250—representing an increase of just $250 for each. The Equus will continue, however, to set new standards for value in the luxury segment.
It all starts with the 429-hp Tau V8 that is the standard powerplant in the Equus and the most powerful engine ever offered by Hyundai. Compared to its chief rival, the Lexus LS 460, the Equus corrals an additional 49 horses, makes 9 more lb.-ft. of torque and is priced more than $8,000 lower. And even though it’s true that the Mercedes-Benz S550 provides considerably more torque than the Equus, it comes with a considerably higher MSRP that tops that of the Hyundai by more than $35,000—while delivering the exact same amount of horsepower.
The 2013 Equus also coddles its owners with an incredible wealth of premium technologies and creature comforts, including:
- An electronically controlled air suspension that features Continuous Damping Control and a sport-driving mode
- Sophisticated exterior light treatments, with LED turn signals, HID headlamps and adaptive front lighting
- Heated and cooled leather seating with humidity control and, for the driver, massaging functionality
- A 17-speaker, 608-watt Lexicon sound system, offering audiophiles a 13-channel amplifier and cutting-edge surround-sound listening enjoyment
- A power tilt-and-slide sunroof
- Navigation with an integrated rearview camera system
- Safety measures like lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control and even an onboard first-aid kit
