[h=1]Hyundai Signs on for Two Year Tournament of Champions Sponsorship[/h]by HYUNDAI IN THE NEWS on SEPTEMBER 12, 2013
It turns out that Hyundai’s long-standing support for green driving is matched by its support for driving toward the greens. After all, the automaker recently renewed its successful title sponsorship of the PGA’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions, which next tees off on Jan. 3, 2014, at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii, on the island of Maui.
“We are very pleased to have Hyundai continue as title sponsor of the Tournament of Champions, which has played a distinctive role on the PGA Tour for more than 60 years by inviting only tournament winners from the previous year,” said Tim Finchem, commissioner of the PGA. “Hyundai has been very active in promoting the tournament and using it to broaden awareness of its brand and products. We look forward to continuing to work with Hyundai over these next two years to meet its objectives as title sponsor.”
Just remember, one of the most important of those objectives is helping the needy, with some assistance from Hyundai’s Hope on Wheels program. In the three years since the company first took over title sponsorship of the tourney, its nonprofit organization has donated $286,000 to the Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children—with more to come.
Of course, there are some business reasons behind the Hyundai/PGA partnership as well.
“The Hyundai Tournament of Champions is an ideal platform to share Hyundai’s premium lineup with golf fans around the world,” added Steve Shannon, vice president of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “The tournament has continued to grow the past three years with ratings up more than 75 percent in 2013. Not surprisingly, the ratings increase and our involvement with the PGA Tour has coincided with market share growth of our premium vehicles, Genesisand the flagship Equus. This tournament is a great fit for our brand.”
