Navigating the Hyundai Genesis lineup—and navigating in the Hyundai Genesis lineup—will both be getting easier in 2013. That’s because Hyundai will streamline the number of available models, while offering a new “ultimate navigation system” with an 8-inch screen and a wealth of helpful technologies.
For the new model year, the Genesis will be featured with two powertrain choices: A potent 3.8-liter direct-injection V6 that delivers 333 hp and 291 lb.-ft. of torque and, exclusively in the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec, a high-performance 5.0-liter V8 engine capable of 429 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque—using regular fuel, not premium. (The 4.6-liter V8 has been dropped from the Genesis.)
The engines are mated solely to eight-speed automatic transmissions with Hyundai’s SHIFTRONIC manual-shifting system, and each delivers typically strong fuel-economy marks. The V6 is capable of returning up to 19 mpg city/29 mpg highway/22 mpg combined, with even the V8 capable of 16 mpg city/25 mpg highway/19 mpg combined. And also helping to create a more satisfying driving experience is the Genesis’ new nav setup.
Available in either the Genesis 3.8 with the Technology package or the R-Spec model, the system boasts an easy-to-read eight-inch screen with a highly intuitive user interface, enhanced voice-recognition capabilities, new “hot key” shortcuts for common functions, and a big 64-gigabyte solid-state drive for storing music, images and video. The navigation functionality is enhanced as well, displaying lane guidance to help manage highway junctions and using actual street signs to alert drivers to the proper route. Also, the point-of-interest lookup system now integrates the latest Zagat restaurant ratings, and Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics system can be added into the mix to create one of the most well-connected cars in the industry.
Connecting with the 2013 Hyundai Genesis itself will be easy, too, since it’s due to arrive in local dealerships later this summer.
